Get into it, let's do!

My eyes shot open instantly, when a student explained to me that she doesn’t stretch before, or after her workouts! Whaaaa?!
In December, Healing Motions Yoga hosted a Free Flow Community Yoga class in Ft. Lauderdale for the entire community to come out, kick it, and keep it moving with Healing Motions Yoga.
As students arrived to class, my Husband worked the front desk, warmly checked the students in, and provided a yoga mat for students who didn’t bring one. Once we were all settled on our mats together, we just got into it! When I tell you, the stretch was stretching! The class moved through neck, shoulder, hip, arm, and leg muscle openers; all while, moving gracefully to the tunes of the new Andre 3000’s flute album (they didn't even know what they were listening to, lol!).
As we flowed through a seated spine twist, there was a specific client, who's shoulders were so tense that during my making adjustments, it felt like she was resisting me changing her alignment, but that was not the case. The real skinny is, that she does weight training and explained to me that, and I place emphasis on, NEVER- that she never stretches before or after her workouts. Furthermore, she works remotely, which is sedentary for her, so just imagine- never stretching, missing three weeks at the gym, and working remotely from home. Let’s say TIGHT! It was when she told me she fell off of her routine over the last 3 weeks was when I immediately understood why her muscles were so tense.
Once the group class ended, I made conversation with all of the students as they rolled up their new yoga mats to head out of the door. While they exited I asked all of them if they are or were gym rats and everyone said yes! I felt thrilled to have attracted so many gym rats, but I tell this story because we all have to start somewhere and sometimes start over again.
Even after falling off of your fitness routine, you can always start over. One of the best ways to get back into any physical routine, is to build a routine with gentle movement and stretching consistently to allow your body to improve flexibility, to become accustomed to movement; thereby, supporting increased movement in different fitness routines.
To assist you in flourishing 24/7, Healing Motions Yoga has a catalog of dates for the year where special classes, events, and workshops will be held. We will bring in the New Year nice and easy with 2 special occasion classes. The schedule on the website for 1:1 remains open to anyone who would like more personal and private yoga instruction.
The virtual class will be held on 1/25 on the Full Moon, which is conderied this year to be the Wolf Moon- the first full moon of the year. If you aren’t in South Florida and want a yoga studio experience from home, the virtual option will be best for you. You can register for the class on eventbrite and the link is HERE.
The in person class will be held on 1/27 after the full moon has come and gone, we will flow through the heightened energies that we experienced during the full moon stage and allow them to pass so that we can become and stay more well balanced in life and throughout all of our Yoga practices together. You can register for this class on event bright and the link for this class is right HERE.
What’s even more fascinating, is that yoga is more than stretching and exercise. Yoga allows us to consciously move different parts of our body that we may or may not use, which requires us to activate our minds. That brings us to our theme of the month- vision. When I reference vision, it’s not necessarily what we see externally, but rather looking internally and reflecting the mirror on ourselves-vision. Ask yourself, what do you see in yourself, how can you live a more well balanced life, and how can you connect your mind and body to productive flourish, all day everyday.
